Adult Watercolor Classes for Beginners to Intermediate with Doreen Spoor
Doreen will be teaching beginning to intermediate watercolor classes, Oct.23 – Nov.20, 10-12 in the Library Meeting Room. Supplies are included but a small fee of $5.00 will be collected at registration to help defray the cost of materials. Register at the Adult information desk.
GFJ Adult Book Club – Thursday, Oct. 29 from 7-8, upstairs meeting room
The GFJ Book Club has chosen the unique and quirky mystery by Alan Bradley titled “The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie”. Please come and enjoy the discussion Thursday the 29th. Bring a friend!
BARK 9 Therapy Dogs are back!
Beginning Saturday morning October 10 in the Youth Services Dept. from 10-12. They will be here Oct. 24, Nov.3, Nov. 17 and Nov. 31. Read a favorite story to your favorite dog!
Caterpillar Story Time – Oct. 8 @ 1 PM in the Library Meeting Room
Join us and children across the country on this day to read Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Children through age 5 will enjoy caterpillar and butterfly stories, songs, activities and crafts. No registration is required.

Programs for Youth in August @ the Library:
Lost & bound: Creating Books from Found Objects – August 11-13
Tap into your creativity during this three day program led by local artist doreen Spoor. Sessions for children ages 6-8 run from 10 to 11:30 AM each day; sessions for children ages 9-11 will be held from 1-3 PM each day. Registration is required.
Street Art with Eric Maruscak – August 19 – 1-4 PM.
Kids ages 8-11 will created chalk art masterpieces on the library’s sidewalk with illustrator and cartoonist Eric Maruscak. Registration is required.
Teen Programs in August:
Crafts with Lisa – August 4, 6-8. Old books become something new. Registration is required.
Teen Game Nights - August 6 & 13 from 6-8. Come play the new Wii games we now have thanks to the Friends of the Library. Other board games will also be available. No registration required.

“Autumn Harvest Quilt” Raffle – tickets are now available for our annual quilt raffle. Carol Bunnell has once again, created a one of a kind, beautiful quilt. Purchase tickets at the adult reference desk in the library. One ticket is $1.00, or 6 for $5.00. All proceeds from the raffle will be used by the Youth Services dept. The drawing for the quilt will be held 9/11/09.

June Events @ the GFJ Library……..
Beginning June 22, sign-up for this year’s Summer Reading Program.
Summer Reading clubs are available for preschool, school age and teens. There are also many special programs for all different ages.
For age 6-8 Awesome Artists Programs July 6 – August 13.
Kreative Kids will be held July 7 – August 4 for ages 9-11.
Mother Goose and Preschool Story Times will also be offered all summer.
There will also be a story time at Highland Park on July 9,16,23,30 and August 6 & 13.
For Teens, there will be game nights, street art programs, mystery night and once again a Book discussion group with Sara-Jo Sites.
Free paperback books will be given to all program participants.
Sigh-up for teens begins June 22 in the youth services dept.
Lawn Programs: There will be programs for all ages on the lawn of the library each Wednesday evening beginning July 1. These are free and no registration is required.

May @ the GFJ Library……
Artist Marian Simpson will give a free demonstration of her painting techniques @ 1 PM on May 13, in the downstairs meeting room of the library. Her paintings are on display on the art wall for the whole month of May. Come and meet Marian and enjoy her beautiful art work.

BARK-9 therapy dogs will be returning every other Saturday in May. They will be in the Youth Services Dept. on May 2, 16, 30 and June 13. Come and read to your favorite dog. Help your children build their reading skills. For more information call the your services dept. @757-5350.

Library Board Opening
We are now accepting applications for a seat on the George F. Johnson Memorial Library Board of Trustees. The term for the volunteer position runs through December, at which time the appointee will be eligible for a new five-year term.
Meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month. Interested candidates may obtain an application from the library’s Web site at www.gfjlibrary.org, or from the library at 1001 Park Street, Endicott.
The deadline for applications is April 30, and applicants must be residents of the Town of Union. Contact library director Ed Dunscombe at (607) 757-5350 or via e-mail at en.ed@4cls.org with questions.

Spring into Crafts @ the GFJ. Calling all children—Get ready to celebrate spring by joining us for an afternoon of crafts on Thursday April 16 from 2-4 PM. No Registration is required. Call the Youth Services Dep. @ 757-5350 for more info.
Get Into the Green Scene @ the GFJ on Wed. April 15 from 2-4
Children in grades 1-5 can join us for books, games, activities and crafts to learn about the earth. Use the Smartboard to play games in the Earth Day Arcade! Registration begins April 6 and is required. Stop by or call 757-5350
Join Dr. Trish Daly of Bayer Animal Health for a talk on fleas and tics on April 2, at 6 PM in the GFJ Library Meeting Room. This is a free talk and is sponsored by the Endicott Animal Hospital. Dr. Daly will address current parasite issues in companion animals including heartworm, fleas, and ticks. There will be a question and answer period.
